Almost 60 percent of sales of the Sicilian wineries are the result from the export of wine abroad. "The 2011 vintage is the star of the ninth edition of Sicilia en Primeur. It reconfirms the ever increasing quality of the wines, which enjoy great popularity abroad," says Antonio Rallo, President of Assovino, who attended yesterday's closure of the event.
According to a survey of Assovini, Sicilian wines are marketed in over 60 countries and generated revenues of approximately ¤ 250 million per year (about 58 percent are from exports). 44 percent of the companies are experimenting with new varieties in the vineyards and 50 percent of the producers are interested in the production of traditional varieties, including Nocera, Vitrarolo and Alzano. 39 percent produce organic wine and another 33 percent are willing to do so in the future.
