The Merlot was the first grape variety introduced to Italy from France, from the Bordeaux region. A variety of average vigour and very balanced vegetation, it found its ideal climate also in Lazio.
This wine from Fontana Candida is made from 100% Merlot grapes coming from selected vineyards in the most acclaimed zones of the region
Part of the wine is aged in small oak barrels, the rest in steel. It has a ruby red colour, a fruity bouquet and a dry flavour full of cherries, plums and fruits of the forest.
Grapes: 100% merlot
Vineyard: selected vineyards in the most celebrated zones of the Lazio region; the vines are trained by the Guyot system on well exposed ground.
Vinification: the grapes are picked during the last ten days of September and vinified by the red wine method with a 10-12 days maceration at a controlled temperature; the small part of the wine is matured for several months in barriques and the remainder in stainless steel tanks; after bottling follows a further medium ageing in bottle.
Wine: deep, ruby-red colour; fruity bouquet; dry and soft flavour full of cherries.
Analytical details: 13.5% alcohol; 5 g/l total acidity, 3.50 pH; 2 g/l sugar; 29 g/l dry extract.
Optimum keeping: 2-3 years in horizontally stored bottles in cool, dark conditions.
Food matches: roast and grilled meats, lamb
Serving temperature: 18°C / room temperature.
