The history of Cantina Foderà began in 1849, when Matteo Foderà began vinifying grapes from his own vineyards in Contrada Giardinello, Marsala. The wine obtained by him and the next four generations was sold, for more than a century, to local taverns and firms that used it as a base for Marsala wine. In 2001, winemaker Nino Foderà, decided to start bottled wine production for the first time. Thus saw the light of the first 2,700 bottles of Merlot, a wine of great structure that obtained from the first vintage an excellent response on the market. Few bottles of that adventurous vintage are still jealously guarded in the cellar. The Foderà family grew up between one bunch of grapes and another, inevitably suffering the fascination of this world: wine is territory, culture, hard work, joy and sharing, it is history and it is future. The vineyards are located in the northern part of Marsala about 30 meters above sea level and are 2.50 kilometers from the Stagnone Nature Reserve. The medium-textured Mediterranean red soils in which the vines insist are characterized by a high percentage of iron and magnesium, excellent drainage characteristics and medium fertility. The vineyards of Grillo, Syrah, Merlot and Perricone in contrada Giardinello and Zibibbo in contrada Dara grow in territories characterized by high biodiversity, ecosystems in which excellent vital balances of microflora and microfauna are maintained.
