Manufacturer: Conti D'Arco
Marzemino Trentino DOC
The Conti d’Arco range includes a number of DOC wines from Trentino, selected from the most acclaimed zones of the region by the oenologists of Gruppo Italiano Vini who oversee every stage of the production process: from the vineyard to the bottle. The name comes from the noble family who owns the medieval castle which, from the rock of Arco, dominates the vineyards of the impressive valley between Lake Garda and the Brenta Dolomites.
Marzemino is a grape variety already described in the Sixteenth century by Ortensio Lando and Agostino Gallo; it is mentioned in Mozart’s Don Giovanni by the l ibrettist, the abbot Lorenzo da Ponte, pleasure-seeking and discerning gourmet “drink the wine . . . the excellent Marzemino”.
Marzemino Trentino Conti d’Arco is a fragrant and fruity red wine, to drink young or moderately mature, with meats, mushrooms and cheeses.
Grapes: 100% marzemino gentile.
Vineyard: selected parcels along the Vallagarina, trained by the pergola trentina system on wellexposed alluvial terrain, rich in gravel, with some clay and limestone; the yield of grapes per hectare is about 120 quintals.
Vinification: the well ripened grapes, picked at the end of October, are vinified by the red wine method, with about a week’s maceration; the fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature (26°-28°C); the new wine develops only in small steel tanks, in order not to affect the varietal aromas.
Wine: dark red colour, with crimson tints; very striking bouquet with the fragrance of raspberry preserve and fresh violets with a slight touch of herbs; dry, full, soft but firm, fruity flavour with a distinctive, slightly bitter aftertaste of green almonds.
Optimum keeping: 3 years in bottles stored horizontally in cool, dark conditions.
Food matches: hot cured pork meats, mushrooms, pasta and risottos with sauces of meat, liver or sausage, boiled or stewed meats and mature cheeses.
Serving temperature: 16°-18°C.
