Marco, with his passion for nature and craftsmanship, and Benedetta, with her academic background in viticulture and enology, are the soul of Montetino. Their union was born from a summer dinner and evolved into a shared project that celebrates the land, viticulture, and friendship. Their diverse experiences intertwine to create wines that are expressions of love, knowledge, and respect for nature and oenological tradition.
We are located in Celano, in the Abruzzese Apennines, immersed in the Sirente-Velino Regional Park and a few steps from the Abruzzo National Park.
Here, the climate is highly influenced by mountain currents, and altitude is a determining factor for the characteristic ripening of the grapes, due to a marked thermal excursion between day and night.
Here, the soil, rich in minerals, limestone, and water and organic matter, creates ideal conditions for the production of distinctive wines, a pure expression of the territory.
It is a place where nature is preserved and protected, a pure and uncontaminated environment that is reflected in the freshness and authenticity of our wines.
Our company has almost two hectares of vineyards, composed of micro-plots acquired from local elders and planted between the 70s and 80s.
The exposure is south-facing, and the altitude varies between 700 and 750 m above sea level. The soils are predominantly composed of clay, sandstone, limestone, and blue marl.
Each vineyard has its own history and is therefore treated with the due care it deserves.
In a large part of our plots, there are fruit trees that contribute to enhancing our agricultural ecosystem. To further implement biodiversity and the richness in organic matter, we use: biodynamic preparations, plant cover crops, and perform only superficial soil cultivation. For the care and protection of the vines, we use only cover products.
In the cellar, as in the vineyard, no chemical agents are used, and operations are carried out with total respect for lunar phases.
We like to think that all the work is done during the vegetative season, and the harvest moment represents nothing more than the joy of working with well-ripened and healthy grapes. The grapes are hand-picked and, once in the cellar, are processed with attention and delicacy to maintain the integrity and quality of the skins. Fermentations are strictly spontaneous and an expression of fruit, territory, and vintage.
The choice to vinify in concrete was crucial for this purpose, given its ability to maintain the purity and nature of the wine, avoiding thermal shocks and protecting it from external factors.
This material allows our wines to express themselves freely and authentically, respecting their natural evolution. No filtrations, no clarifications.
