CitariI Prodotti: Wine
Founded in 1975 by Francesco Gettuli, Citari has grown over time thanks to the love and passion transmitted from its founder to his daughter Giovanna who now leads it, together with her husband Ugo Mascini and their children Maria Giovanna and Francesco.
Citari is situated on San Martino hill, a place rich in history, just a short distance from the tower of the same name, erected to commemorate a bloody battle, fought on 24 th June 1859 during the second war of independence, which paved the way for the Unification of Italy.
Determination, a symbiotic link to the land, the ongoing fusion of tradition, the past and the present are all elements that enable Citari to produce two prestigious DOC wines: Lugana and San Martino.
Our San Martino Doc takes its name from the little town on the morainic hills to the south of Lake Garda; the production area for our Lugana Doc includes Peschiera, Sirmione, Desenzano and Lonato del Garda.
The mild climate and the land of Lake Garda create highly favourable pedoclimatic conditions for an ideal and unique maturation of the grapes. Moreover, the limited dimensions of the vines, the completely manual harvest, the careful selection of the grape clusters and the most modern wine-making techniques enhance the wines’ uniqueness and especially their structure and intense, fruity aroma.
Stretching over 25 hectares, 17 of which are situated on gentle, south-facing slopes, Citari produces 100,000 bottles and works in close collaboration with vine grower and cellar manager Simone Rigon and with Emilano Rossi, oenologist.
For some time Citari has successfully followed the road of quality and, now, from its area of origin, is extending its market within Italy and abroad.
